As a short term inability analyst, you spend your day answering the phone (being given data or asked by claimants about the status of their claim, a constant source of interruption of your workflow), reviewing claims (policy booklets, medical records, medical documents), and answering emails (substantially the same as phone calls, although you lot get emails from internals with requests from the employers we serve). Your primary metric for advancement is your costumer service metric. At the stop of the twenty-four hour period, customers want their money chop-chop, and your remaining metrics are mainly about speed, with quality being lowest priority (although this is unsaid, nobody e'er explicitly states this). I had the second highest client service score for 2 years and the fastest processing time in terms of tasks, email response, and voicemail responses. I received a 5 dollar increase in ane twelvemonth for this operation, only it was a tight labor market place (2018 - 2019). Claims handlers for curt term and long term disability are expected to work 10 to 12 hour days (and this is before being in direction). If you want overtime and extra money, it can exist an intellectually stimulating job and the day goes by apace. But if yous want to piece of work at xl hours and have piece of work life balance and low physical/mental/emotional stress you are unlikely to find those, or at least all of those things, in that role at that company. My experience networking internally was that many other areas of the business concern are not like this culturally. I was given a volume of work much higher than my peers. Most people have a caseload of 250 -300 depending on their feel and ability and how the work load fluctuates for the department equally a whole. My caseload prior to being fired was 415. Equally the book of work gets that high, yous are in a position where it is not possible to maintain every aspect of your role at a level that makes you available to customers and meets all your core metrics. I was ofttimes criticized for how bachelor I was past phone, how long information technology took me to respond to emails or voicemails. I had done a lot of tricks with excel and one annotation to see the demands of the job and I was very organized. Members of management repeatedly expressed astonishment at how much piece of work I got done while having exceptionally high core metrics. At the volume of piece of work I had, getting the work done at the speed they wanted ofttimes meant leaving certain voicemails or emails not responded to. I was often approving things without actually reviewing them. And when I expressed to management that I was doing these things and that my case load was too high and that I couldn't procedure this book of work, the conversations ofttimes went nowhere, or I would get work lowered for awhile and so it would surge back up again, or in a couple cases it felt like they didn't desire to hear it. Its unclear whether the corners I was cutting where ok, or only ok with certain managers looking the other mode. Yous are either stressed because you are less productive, e'er behind, and always being pushed by management to work long hours, or you are stressed because you lot are productive so y'all are given extra work. At i point I had a loftier case load and was yet asked to help out people who were behind on their work. I couldn't help others, have a loftier example load, and be as available by telephone as they would have liked. Besides, I would say to that information technology ever felt like the e-mail response criticism was really internals angry that I was not responding to/prioritizing their emails (a true accusation, but information technology was a biproduct of my work load). I didn't swear or write anything in email correspondence that was egregiously rude or unprofessional. Direction is frequently indirect and a scrap emotionally manipulative when having conversations about the work load, which is a turn off. I did half-dozen interviews, and if y'all flexibly ascertain preparation, I didn't get out of training for 3ish months. It was not until month 3 or iv that the expectation that i would piece of work fifty - 55 hours a week was discussed. I was ultimately fired for emails being unprofessional and the low number of calls I answered. If they accept an employee who tin do that work more quickly and effectively than I was, I deserved to be fired and they should proceed those employees. But based on my experience, I doubt there are other employees who were as productive as me (and I would have been but like everyone else if I didn't know or figure out a few tricks with excel and 1 note to brand me faster at the task). In that location was no performance management, and the firing occurred during 2020 covid in the cotext of a massive layoff they were doing in my subdivision of the business so the reasons could have been a pretext. I liked the people I work with, and I liked many aspects of the visitor culture, and while the task was not a long term fit, I learned a lot and did enjoy parts of it. Until they decide to hire enough employees and give employees a lower work load, I remember they are going to continue to see high turnover or accept employees who were burned out as I was.
Cons
Claims handlers for brusque term and long term disability are expected to work 10 to 12 60 minutes days (and this is before beingness in direction). If yous want overtime and extra money, it can be an intellectually stimulating job. Only if you desire to work at 40 hours y'all will either be miserable, or in about cases wont be able to. If you lot find a manner to increase your productivity, you will be assigned more work, which means you wont get work life balance by existence more productive and the increased volume makes information technology harder to hit your metrics. You lot will proceed working long hours, and you are held to speed expectations regarding your email response, phone availability, and job completion that exercise not cistron your work volume. Management is ofttimes indirect and a bit emotionally manipulative when having

Former Employee, more than 1 year
Pros
I gained enough experience to get out and find employment that is less stressful.
Cons
Then many negatives.... I practice very trivial reviews but if you accept a task offer somewhere else. Take THAT.!! If yous have a decent task and you are considering this job. STAY where you are. I would not advise anyone to come work here unless y'all have no other options. There is NO piece of work/life balance- none. This is non a job the promotes a sense of accomplishment, There is no terminate to the piece of work... you could piece of work and work and work and at that place will however be more work. 55+ hours per week and there would notwithstanding be more than work. Management is out of impact with what they call up it takes to work a claim, so they add together to the work with an increase to work and telephone call it a solution. Y'all are a number here. You make full a seat to do a task and they take no problems giving someone else your seat- so you lot either become it quickly or yous volition be told that you will be fired. But in that location is a lack of adequate grooming, your job entails reviewing medical records. even with no dorsum ground in whatsoever medical field and this a MAJOR function of the task atleast 60%. So if you don't know then y'all have to get a another party (a nurse) to behave a review. Its real circular and time consuming. When it seems it would merely make sense to have a nurse review the medical in the first. Only nothing that actually makes sense gets done. You lot are on the phone all day long so its like you practice the chore of working in as a customer service rep along with beingness an annotator. .. I could go along and on but ultimately - Information technology takes an extremely special person to do this task. I have seen people cry at piece of work all the time, from work stress and unrealistic goals. If someone would have told me when I got this job how unhappy I would be. I would have stayed where I was.... Because I left a chore to come here thinking it would be a better opportunity and I was ameliorate off where I was at.

Pros
Really enjoy the people I work with and the job definitely keeps your heed working all solar day long. Abiding problem solving and actually bang-up if you bask a challenge.
Cons
Unrealistic expectations of their employees. Piece of work loads are not distributed evenly amid co-workers. Should have been upfront about the overtime expectations. I took this job so I would no longer have to work weekends, evenings or holidays and it seems that I work more of them than I did when I was scheduled for them merely to get my piece of work done. Never able to go ahead and e'er feeling behind due to the overload of work.

One-time Employee, more than 1 twelvemonth
Pros
Coworkers and team leaders were great to work with. Good benefits.
Cons
The department was very understaffed and the work load was very loftier. There was a lot of pressure to put in overtime and work faster only to go through all the work. There was a conflicting message from management to continue to produce high quality piece of work while doing more piece of work than is sometimes possible in i 24-hour interval. The technology and processing systems are pretty out of date.
